For those of you who may not know, I'm a major swiftie. You may or may not know her hit song '22' from her album 'Red' that she re-released last November. Now 10 years after writing the song Taylor got to celebrate an amazing achievement with NYU's class of 2022, branding her slogan for the graduating class of "feeling 2022". Taylor Swift has had a very successful career ever since she started releasing and writing music in 2006. But today we're going to take a deep dive into Taylor's new achievement and title Doctor Swift, and we're going to look at how through this, she continues to impact and inspire many all over the world.
Let's start from the beginning...well back to 2016. In a "73 Questions With Taylor Swift" Vogue interview, Taylor was asked, "What's one goal you're determined to achieve in your lifetime?" and Swift replied with, "I really want an honorary doctorate degree..." And now 6 years later Taylor Swift accepted an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts, from New York University. The prolific pop singer also delivered a commencement speech to this years class of 2022.
Although Swift did not go to college, she delivered a 20 minute speech to the graduates discussing how to navigate life post college and throughout the early stages of career life.
"As for me, I’m…90% sure the main reason I’m here is because I have a song called ‘22’. And let me just say, I am elated to be here with you today as we celebrate and graduate New York University’s Class of 2022." Swift spoke in the beginning of her commencement.
Taylor continued to speak and shared amazing inputs based on her own experiences what she went through as a teen. I wanted to share my favorite quotes from her speech:
"I leave you with this: We are led by our gut instincts, our intuition, our desires and fears, our scars and our dreams. And you will screw it up sometimes. So will I. And when I do, you will most likely read about on the internet. Anyway…hard things will happen to us. We will recover. We will learn from it. We will grow more resilient because of it. As long as we are fortunate enough to be breathing, we will breathe in, breathe through, breathe deep, breathe out. And I’m a doctor now, so I know how breathing works."
Not only has Taylor Swift been a major singer/songwriter but her speech touched the lives of 19,000 graduates, and so many more. She teacher us to learn from our mistakes, work hard to achieve our dreams, stand up for the choices we believe in, carve the path want, and best of all hold on to the right, and let go of the wrong. Taylor shows us how to grow as humans and intellectuals and for that I'll always love her. She's a role model for women all around the world not just by receiving a doctorate and pursuing her goals but by standing up for her beliefs despite what others may think. Nobody deserves and holds the title of a Doctor better than her.
Here's a link to access her entire speech.
I hope you enjoyed this weeks article, and I hope Taylor's words resonated with you and if they didn't I hope you felt a little bit inspired and more hopeful after reading them.

XOXO
